Aaron Chavez, a social studies teacher, to the project. Aaron, we
hope you learn a lot about how to use digital tools to improve student

My name is Aaron Chavez and I was born in Kennewick,
Washington. While
growing up my family and I moved around the country because of
my father' job. While in the seventh grade I came contact with a
couple different teachers who I feel influenced me to go into
education. My high school years were spent in Maine, Minnesota,
Tennessee and in various parts of Washington State. It seemed
like I was always the new kid. Well, when I graduated from high
school I enrolled at
Spokane Falls Community College. My immediate family moved back
to Maine my
freshman year in college. That first year I lived in the Browns
addition, it
was quite exciting, culminating I think with my car being stolen
one morning
as I was getting ready for a class. After finishing up at
Spokane Falls and
Eastern Washington University the first thought that came to
mind was to
move back to Washougal, where Mr. Bright and Mr. Burnham taught.
The day
after finishing my student teaching at Pasco High School I
loaded my things
into a u-haul trailer and was on the road. My first sub job was
at my old
school Jemtegaard Middle School. That day I got a chance to
visit with Mr.
Bright and Mr. Burnham. I think it was one of the best days in
my life. As
the year was coming to an end I was offered a job in Kennewick
for the
summer. I went ahead and moved back to Kennewick also putting my
application
in for a social studies position in the Finley School district.
I was called
in for an interview and hired the following day. One week later
Jemtegaard
Middle School called me to come for an interview. I had to
decline. Teaching
in the Finley School district has been great. Since getting the
job I've
completed my masters degree, gotten married, and on Jan.17, 2000
my first
child was born. My students and I have also been involved with
maintaining
the districts web pages.
