I began my life in Manistee, Michigan . My father was a science teacher and an officer in the Army at that time because he went through school on an ROTC scholarship at MSU. My family was soon traveling the world. As a young girl, I started school in Baumholder, Germany. Along with these experiences came many changes such as attending up to seven different schools in one year. Eventually after the Vietnam War my father retired from the Army and my parent both went back to a career in education. My mother ,a principal of three elementary schools and my father, a vocational director in the White Pass School District. By this time our family had grow to include my four brothers. My parents thought it would be neat to have a farm as well as a professional career and so that is what my brothers and I did as a chore when we came home from high school. I believe these experience taught me the values of commitment, dedication and family.

My undergraduate studies were done at WSU and UofW where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Education with an endorsement in Physical Science. Four years later , I received my Master's Degree in Education with a minor in Supervision Management at University of Portland. My first teaching assignment , which lasted for seven years, dealt with forth, fifth, and sixth grade highly capable students in the Kelso School District. I would create various thematic unit which integrated various disciplines using higher level thinking skills. It was called the Differentiated Educational Experiences Program. After this experience, I decide it was time for a change. I was chosen to teach eighth and ninth grade integrated science at Coweeman Junior High School. The areas of science I teach are earth and space science, and basic physics and chemistry. I am presently serving on two district committees: science and health. This year I am also enjoying having a WSU intern in my classroom.

My husband, Daniel, and I have a blended family of five children four of which are in college. Our oldest will be graduating in May from WSU. Life is good at the Gemar's home!
