The Digital Tools project staff wishes to congratulate Malott Elementary School in the Okanogan School District for joining our team. We welcome 6th grade teachers, Mike Gariano and Mike Gilmore, to the project. We hope you learn a lot about how to use digital tools to improve student learning as well as how to improve your own technology usage competency. Congratulations!
Mike Gariano, Malott Elementary School I was born and raised in the Okanogan area. I enjoyed this area so much, I decided to make it my home. Ive taught 6th grade for Okanogan School District for 21 years. Throughout those years, coaching many sports at many levels of ability has taken much of my time. Ive also been married 21 years (to my high school sweet heart) and have three children: Brent 19, Brady 16, and Erin 14. I have been involved with the local athletic club for the past few years organizing youth baseball camps, volleyball camps, leagues and tournaments. I enjoy outdoor activities, watching my childrens athletic events and traveling.
I am a 6th grade teacher in Malott, a small area south of Okanogan. I have been teaching for 18 years. I started my career as a Biology/Physics and chemistry. I moved to the 6th grade about 8 years ago. In addition to teaching 6th grade, I have spent the last 14 summers teaching and leading outings at the Okanogan Juvenile Detention Facility. I have also been very active in coaching. I currently coach basketball and tennis and I am an active leader in the 4-H Challenge Ropes Coarse. In addition to teaching I enjoy hunting, fishing and packing into the mountains.
