The faculty of Mount Baker Junior High School realizes that supportive relationships are the foundation of good instruction. We are committed to cultivating a culture where concern for one another is paramount. Upon this foundation, we are able to push each student to realize his or her full potential both academically as well as personally ensuring that each of our students experiences their highest level of success in high school and beyond.
COVID-19 UPDATES: Please reference this list for the latest in instructional delivery while we remain closed through April 24, 2020. This list will be updated as things change.
What's happening with Chromebooks? Two weeks ago, teachers reached out to students and families and asked several questions to try and guage tech needs among other needs. Students/parents were asked whether or not they had enough devices to be one-on-one. If a family replied "no" then they were added to the chromebook list. In hindsight, this may not have been the best question to guage need, but trust us, we'll be better prepared for the next world-wide-pandemic! For now, however, we are moving forward with this data. On Tuesday, March 31 some of those families were contacted regarding pickup for Wednesday, April 1. Because of the greater need at the HS, several JH families on our list were bumped to the second pick-up date which is slated for Friday, April 3. The second round families will receive a phone call and email on Wednesday, April 1 regarding pick-up times at the secondary campus. We realize that this is a challenge, but our IT team and other folks have been working tirelessly to try and serve the greatest number of families in the most convenient way possible. A big thanks goes out to them for this assistance!
How are teachers offering instruction? As a JH/HS campus, all teachers will be using Google Classroom. Most students are familiar with this platform at this point. For students without internet access, hard copies of materials will be made available. More on that to come.
What about Chromebooks? MBJH staff woked hard to contact every family at the JH. One of the reasons for this outreach was to verify who needed a chromebook. For the families we were able to contact, a list of names was built and our tech folks have readied several chromebooks to be checked out on Wednesday, April 1. Details on location and times for pickup will be sent to those families shortly.
What is the instructional schedule going to look like? On the days below, teachers should be providing assignments through Google Classroom and will be available during school hours on the days designated to assist students with questions, etc.
- Monday: Math, Base Camp with Bennett, PE
- Tuesday: Science, Literacy Intervention / LAP
- Wednesday: Language Arts, Social Studies
- Thursday: Music, Agricultural Science
- Friday: PE, teachers will be available to answer emails regarding assignments.
Who should I contact if I have a question about my class? Please email your teacher directly.
What about other questions? Please feel free to reach out to principal Troy Wright, email@example.com or counselor Rob Bennett, firstname.lastname@example.org
What about electives for the next three weeks? Many of our electives are taught by high school teachers who are currently busy designing continued learning opportunities for their high school students. These teachers have largely been asked to pause junior high instruction for the next three weeks so that they can focus their energy on high school classes, many of which impact our graduating seniors. Specifically, the classes currently being paused include: Woodshop, Karate, 8th Grade Spanish, 7th Grade Art, Robotics, 7th Grade Academic Success.
What if we don't return on April 27? Will electives not be offered? We are currently working on that, but the plan for now is that we will return on April 27 and those paused electives will resume.
Mount Baker Junior High proudly presents.... Unplugged
Attention parents and families! If your junior high student participates in the after school weight training program, please read: the popular after school weight lifting program does not start until 3:45. Unfortunately, because of liability and limited staffing, students are not permitted to be on campus unsupervised after 2:30. Therefore the after school program is only open to those students who can find transportation back to campus at 3:45 PM. We apologize for the inconvenience!
The junior high yearbook is going to be AWESOME this year! Don't be left out. Talk to Mr. Hart about ordering yours before they're all gone.
