Weekly Update from the Superintendent | 9/27/2023

Dear students, staff, families and community,

October 4th our 90-minute early releases on Wednesdays begin.  This time is used for important professional development for staff, collaboration, and planning.  This is valuable time to ensure educators have the information and preparation they need to meet the needs of all of our students.  Junior High and High School students are dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Elementary students are dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

There are also some days in October scheduled for parent conferences.  These early releases are different from Wednesdays.  On Friday, October 20th Junior High and High School students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. for conferences.  October 24th through 27th elementary students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. for conferences.  We encourage everyone to attend the conference scheduled for your student(s).  Conferences are a great opportunity for teachers and parents to partner in support of your child’s learning.

I would like to share an important reminder about our transportation services.  It is fortunate that we are able to offer a late bus at our secondary campus to ensure students have access to after school activities such as sports, clubs, music, drama, and homework help.  Students who participate in these activities must stay on campus until they board their late bus for home.  The late bus is not a service for students who want to hang out, go to the store, or other areas of the community and then return to school to get a ride home.  All students who ride the late bus must be involved in a legitimate after school activity and remain on campus.

Fall is a great time to gather for comforting food and friendship.  The Columbia Valley Community Connections group is hosting a potluck at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:00 p.m.  This is a great way to connect with our wonderful community!

Have a wonderful evening!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
