Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear students, staff, families and community,

Last week we completed staff budget informational and listening sessions at each school.  This week we have engaged the community in sessions at each of our elementary schools with Harmony happening this evening.  Here is a link with more information including the presentation and the link for questions and feedback.  Recordings of each meeting will be posted soon.  Thank you to all staff and community members who have participated in this process.  We will be developing an FAQ based on questions asked during this session, sharing themes from the comments, and giving the Finance Workgroup all of the information to study as they collect data before decisions are made regarding reductions.

As I shared in my earlier communication, Mount Baker School District will be running an Educational Programs and Operations Levy as well as a Capital Levy for the February 13, 2024 Election.  There is now a link  on our website advertising the opportunity to engage in  “For” or “Against” committees for the purpose of developing statements for the Voters Pamphlet.  Anyone interested should contact me.

This week is National School Psychologist Week!  Thank you to our awesome Psychologists, Brittany Myers and Michael Walton!  We appreciate all you do to serve our students and families!

Next week we have Thanksgiving break on Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24. Monday, November 27 there is no school because it is a non-contracted day for staff members due to the change of trimesters.  Enjoy the five-day weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
Mount Baker School District
