Weekly Update from the Superintendent

October 27, 2021

Dear students, staff, families and community,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our entire school community including all of you for your support and care regarding the safety and well-being of students and staff on our secondary campus.  It has been wonderful to have the presence of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office on campus full-time this week.  Fire District 1, Medic One, and PeaceHealth have also stepped up to help us with planning and extra support.  We are so grateful for these community partnerships!

We are continuing to work with Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office regarding ongoing investigation of the threats that came to our attention during the past weeks. Today there was some graffiti in two separate bathrooms that may be related but did not include threats.  Social media has produced some information that is being investigated as well.  Again, if you have any information, please contact the school at (360) 383-2015 or leave information on our tip line at (360) 383-2093.

Just a friendly reminder that students should have masks on as they are loading onto buses.  Our drivers have been going through a lot of masks because kids are not prepared with their own masks.  We are happy to provide them when needed but we ask for your assistance to keep a handle on our supply and demand for masks.

Our fall sports season is winding down.  Congratulations to all of our fall student athletes and coaches!  Our second and final home varsity football game against Meridian High School is this Friday at 7:00 PM. MBJH girls’ and boys’ basketball starts this week.  MBHS winter sports will begin November 15.  You can access more information about winter sports here.

Next Tuesday, November 2 is election day.  Make your voice heard by exercising your right to vote.

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent | msewright@mtbaker.wednet.edu | (360) 617-4600
