March 2, 2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

We welcome March and all the promises that spring brings to our school community.  It is time to go out and have some fun.  Let me help you with some suggestions.  Go to a play.  The Mount Baker Junior High Drama Department presents Young Sherlock Holmes on Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 PM.  Listen to music.  Join us for our band concert on March 8 at 7:00 PM. It will feature performers from grades 8 – 12, including our 8th Grade Band, Highlander Band, Jazz Band, and Mountaineer Band.  Enjoy dinner and an auction.  Saturday, March 12 the FFA Live and Silent Auction will include dinner and multiple opportunities to bid on amazing things while supporting our nationally recognized FFA program.  There are many opportunities to have fun this month while supporting the hard work, creativity, and talent of Mount Baker students.

After March 11, staff and students will be able to choose whether or not they want to wear a mask.  While many people are celebrating this new found freedom, others are anxious about their health and safety as we transition to this change.  Here are resources regarding lifting mask mandates that can help parents talk with their children about the upcoming changes.  Revised K-12 OSPI and DOH Guidelines are expected to be released next week. I should be able to answer more specifics in my communication next week.

Our thoughts are with Ukraine regarding their safety as well as global safety.  Mount Baker School District has responded by identifying students who may need additional support at this time.  We have also provided staff with resources to inform them about the history as well as the current events that are pertinent to this situation.  The resources provide them with talking points to address questions and concerns that may arise in classrooms.  We want our schools to be safe places where students can address their concerns.

I am looking forward to connecting with all of you this spring as we enjoy more and more activities and events.

Best wishes for a wonderful spring!
