Dear students, staff, families and community,
Every Whatcom County School District including Mount Baker has a Mobile Crisis Response Team trained and prepared to assist any school and/or district in a time of need. Recently our community experienced the loss of a Mount Baker High School graduate that impacted our schools. This past week two of our neighboring districts have suffered losses. Whenever a District experiences a tragedy, these teams mobilize to support students and staff. This week many of our counselors have spent time in Ferndale and Lynden providing this important support. We value the mental health resources we have in our schools to prevent these losses. Our counselors, mental health professionals, and family service coordinators are vital components of our school programs. It is important that we all work together as a community to avert these tragedies. Our website has mental health resources to assist individuals and families in crisis.
We are excited to partner with two different Community Based Organizations specializing in outdoor education for our summer school program for incoming K-8 students. Wild Whatcom and Common Threads will work with Mount Baker staff to provide an enriching summer learning experience that connects learning in the classroom to outdoor activities. The program will take place at Harmony Elementary School, Monday through Friday for two weeks, from August 1 through 12. We still have room and would like to provide this opportunity for as many students as possible. Use this form to register prior to Friday, May 13.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank every certificated staff member for all they do to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally. They make a positive difference in the lives, hearts, and minds of so many people every day. Thank you to all Mount Baker Certificated Staff!
