Weekly Update from the Superintendent

May 18, 2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank School Board Director Brain Kelly for his nine years of service to Mount Baker School District.  He has been a dedicated and thoughtful board member who has always put students at the forefront of his advocacy and leadership.  Brian has decided to resign his position as a Board Member which leaves an opening on the school board.  The school board will appoint a new member through an application and interview process from District 1 to serve at least until the position is up for election, and longer if they are the successful candidate in that election.  Here is a link with more information.

We have received a $50,000.00 planning grant through the Washington State Department of Health for a School Based Health Center.  The planning will begin this summer and take place over a one-year period.  The goal is to create a sustainable plan with community partnerships that could make this service a reality for our students.  A big thank you to Aly Robinson, Community Health Specialist with Whatcom County Health Department for facilitating the writing of this grant with our staff.

Today was our last early release for Wednesday’s this year.  You can view next year’s schedule here.

Congratulations to the Mount Baker FFA Parliamentary Team!  They placed 2nd in sub-state and 5th in state at the Washington State FFA Convention!

Go Baker!
