Weekly Update from the Superintendent

June 1, 2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

We started out this week with a bit of a challenge.  The Pre-School, Junior High, High School, and District Office had sporadic power for the first half of the school day on Tuesday.  Students and staff took this in stride and were able to engage in learning in a variety of creative ways including learning outside.  A big thanks to our Maintenance Team and Puget Sound Energy for pinpointing the issue and restoring service in a timely manner.

All public schools must provide comprehensive sexual health education (CSHE) to all students by the 2022-23 school year (please see RCW 28A 300.475 for more details).  In order to ensure that curriculum and instruction are comprehensive and in alignment with the law, a formal curriculum adoption process must occur.  We are looking for school staff and community members who would like to serve on the task force. Community members should complete this application if interested. There will be a presentation about this process at the June 9 School Board Meeting at 6:00 p.m.  You can attend board meetings in person or via zoom.

Congratulations to our Student Athletes who participated in the State Competitions for track. fastpitch softball, and golf! Our Lady Mountaineers Fastpitch Softball Team earned 4th in State.  Ryan Atchley participated in the State Golf Competition in Spokane.  Three track team members placed in State Competitions.  Davin Beason placed 1st in shot put and discus as well as 2nd in javelin.  Trinity Anderson placed 3rd in the high jump. Wyatt Pettigrew placed 1st in the long jump.

The Mount Baker FFA Food and Science Team and Vet Science Team traveled to Pullman.  The Food Science Team placed 5th in State this weekend. The Vet Science Team is competing today, and we are anxiously awaiting results this evening.

Senior banners are hanging along the fence on Mitchell Road.  Enjoy this video honoring our seniors who will graduate June 16 at 6:30 p.m.  Congratulations to the Mount Baker High School Class of 2022!
