Weekly Update from the Superintendent

June 8, 2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

There are eleven school days left in this school year for our K-11 grade students.  The last day for Seniors is this Friday, June 10.  We look forward to graduation on June 16 at 6:30 p.m.  As we near the end of the school year I want to make you aware of a change in how we are handling technology, specifically Chromebooks.  Elementary schools will collect Chromebooks and reissue them in September.  Junior High and High School students will be able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer, so there will be no need to reissue them in the fall.  These devices are checked out to students but are still property of Mount Baker School District.  All students should take good care of them, so they are fully functional in September when students will be expected to have them at school.  If for any reason, you don’t want your student to keep their Chromebook over the summer, they can be turned in at the MBJH/HS Library.  Hotspots need to be turned in over the summer.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s school or the technology help desk at helpdesk@mtbaker.wednet.edu.

It is my priority as the Superintendent to ensure that every student feels safe with a deep sense of belonging at school.  My team is working with me to design systems for excellence and belonging at all levels of our District.  When all students belong, all students benefit. There have been some questions about PRIDE Month which is nationally recognized.  It has been important to many of our students whether or not they identify with the LGBTQ+ community to send messages of acceptance, so you might see some posters at our schools that students have chosen to make to create a more inclusionary culture at school.

Tomorrow night is our Honors Night for Seniors.  Every year the Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundations gives thousands of dollars in scholarships to Mount Baker students.  A huge thank you to this Foundation as well as the many other individual and group/organization donors who support our students!

Go Baker!
