Weekly Update from the Superintendent | 9/14/2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

Our school community has been impacted by the tragic loss of a junior high school student this past week. We are doing everything we can to support our students and staff as we are all grieving this loss. When events such as this occur, we receive extra support from our County Mobile Crisis Response Team made up of staff from our neighboring districts. Counseling has been available and utilized by staff and students. We are also reaching out to the family to support them at this difficult time.

You can help your children simply by talking and listening to them. We don’t always know how a student will be affected by a death, but you know your child best. Don’t hesitate to call your child’s school counselor if you have questions or feel that your child needs additional support. School Safety and Crisis Resources are on our website. We are still in desperate need of bus drivers. We have a bus driver class starting this Monday and meeting through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Transportation at (360) 383-2060 or apply here on our website.

Mount Baker offers many extra-curricular activities for student engagement. This includes the arts. Our new Drama Coach is Allison Ross, and she is excited to work with students to hone their skills and talents whether it be on stage or behind the scenes production work. This fall the Mount Baker High School Drama Department will present Puffs: OR Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic (One Act for Young Wizards) by Matt Cox. Students will be working hard the next few months to prepare for public performances on November 4, 5, 10, and 12 at 7:00 p.m. and November 13 at 2:00 p.m.

September 23 rd the Mount Baker FFA will have their annual salmon BBQ prior to the football game from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sockeye salmon, baked beans, corn on the cob, and macaroni or potato salad will be served. The cost is $20 per adult and $15 per child under twelve years old. It is an event that you don’t want to miss. At 7:00 p.m. our Mountaineers will take on Cedar Park, so be sure to stay to enjoy some amazing football!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
