Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear students, staff, families and community,

As we embark on November it is important that we address inclement weather and emergency situations. I take decisions impacting our school schedule very seriously because I know they impact families and student learning.  Any decision involving late arrival, early dismissal, or school closure is carefully considered with my team.  We check roads and conditions as well as communicate with surrounding Districts.  Communication to staff and families is initiated as soon as possible through texts, emails, and/or phone calls. This information will also be posted on the website's Alert Banner pop-up.

Other ways to stay informed regarding school closures, inclement weather, and transportation changes/issues include our Inclement Weather Line at 360-383-2071, FLASHALERTMobile Apps, and the Website Livefeed

This year we want to do our best to avoid full closures when possible by implementing an Emergency Plan for Remote Learning on days the weather makes it too unsafe to come to school, but we still have power and the capacity for remote learning. Your child’s school will be contacting you about Chromebooks going back and forth to school during our winter months as well as schedules that will be followed in the event we have a remote day of learning.  It is important for the District to be prepared to provide continuity of learning for students during emergencies rather than canceling school. The use of technology will allow the District to provide synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities for students. Again, more specific information will be sent to you directly from your child’s school.

With fall activities wrapping up, I would like to give a big shout out to all of our coaches, advisors, volunteers, and students for their amazing accomplishments and positive representation of Mount Baker!  Our FFA and DECA competitors, musicians, drama students, student leaders, and our athletes all make our community proud.

Please join us for Mount Baker High School’s Drama Production of PUFFS on November 4, 5, 10, and 12 at 7pm and November 13 at 2pm. You can access more information on our website. This is sure to be a delightful experience for the whole family!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
