Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear students, staff, families and community,

My final update for 2022 is full of Baker Pride and good cheer!

I hope you all had the chance to see our Pawsitively Baker dog therapy program showcased on King 5 Evening Magazine Monday night.  If not, check this out.  The story will make you smile. I always appreciate it when the media focuses on the great things that happen in our schools!

Congratulations to our girls’ 7th/8th grade Baker AAU basketball team.  They were champions in the Skagit County tournament which qualified them to go onto the State tournament in March.  Way to go ladies and coaches!

The FFA Food Drive is on now at MBHS!  It ends this Friday, December 16.  If possible, students should bring nonperishable items to their PRIDE class.  The winning class gets a pizza party!  Thank you to our awesome FFA students for their community service and kindness!

Our school community is blessed with amazing staff members who make a difference for students every day.  I would like to celebrate two of them who are retiring after many years of service.  Cheryl Olson worked for our Child Nutrition Department for 28 years.  She has fed and cared for so many students over the years making sure they are ready to learn.  I know current staff members who have fond memories of Cheryl as their “Lunch Lady.”  Kim Gates has been a bus driver for 32 years! I know there are many adults listening right now who rode her bus. Our bus drivers transport students to opportunities!  Think about all the accomplishments made by students over 32 years because Kim has taken them to opportunities to grow, learn and become incredible citizens.  A big thank you to Cheryl Olson and Kim Gates for their dedicated service to our children and entire community.  They will be missed, but their service has left a lasting imprint and made school a great place for all.

My heartfelt best wishes to all of you for a festive holiday season and wonderful winter break!  Together we will make 2023 a great year for Baker!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
