Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear students, staff, families and community,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break despite the weather extremes.  The snow was lovely, but we can do without ice storms and flooding the rest of the winter.  That said, we strive to be prepared for everything.  This is just a reminder that you can find pertinent information regarding school operations in inclement weather on our website.  Any changes and/or issues will be communicated by the District through texts, emails, and/or phone calls to families; website alert banner; live feed, & mobile app notifications; inclement weather phone line; and FlashAlert. If the District does not post any updates, then schools and transportation are on normal schedules.

Throughout the school year we have some days built into the calendar for staff professional learning.  Two of those days are coming up soon. On Friday, January 13, Mount Baker School District will provide social-emotional learning professional development to all staff which is in accordance with the law (RCW 28A.415.445(1)). Friday, February 10 all staff will receive professional development on mandatory reporting for part of the day.  The rest of the day they will work on reviewing data and completing activities related to school improvement plans.

January is School Board Director Appreciation Month.  I would like to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to our awesome school board members!  Although they are elected officials, they do not get paid.  They volunteer countless hours and are dedicated to the achievement and well-being of all students.  It is an honor to work with and for such amazing leaders.  Thank you to Russ Pfeiffer-Hoyt, Brenna Reaugh, Annie Elder, Abby Yates, and Ed Fox for all they do for our students, staff, and families!

Winter activities are in full-swing including drama, music, FFA, and athletics.  I hope to see you all out and about supporting our students with that Baker Pride.

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
