Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Members:

Our first day of school for grades 1 to 12 is just two weeks from today on August 30.  It is always exciting to embark on a new school year.  School offices open August 21st through August 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  All offices will be closed August 28 for staff training, and they will be open again for regular hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting August 29.

There have been several inquiries regarding school supply needs.  Elementary students will have all supplies provided.  Please don’t send school supplies to school with elementary children.  Junior High supplies are posted on the MBJH website. High School Students should have something to write with as well as a way to organize their assignments such as a folder for each class or a notebook.  Any other needs such as fees or supplies for specific classes will be communicated through individual teachers.  Our counselors and Family Service Coordinators will be available to assist with any resources needed to ensure every student has what they need to succeed.

Mount Baker High School athletics practices start August 21 with the exception of football which started today.  The Junior High practices start August 2.  All practices begin at 3:00 p.m. It is important that students and parents have completed required forms and requirements for participation.  Please see our Athletics Information Page on the Mount Baker Website for all the information you need including contacts that can clarify any additional questions you have.  We are looking forward to a great fall sports season!  We hope to see lots of fans in the stands supporting Baker!

For the past few years, I have provided weekly communication on Wednesdays to staff and families with an email and robocall.  I want to continue to communicate in the best way possible to meet the needs of our school community.  Please complete this very brief survey, so I can determine the mode and frequency of my communication for the upcoming school year.

Baker is so fortunate to have so many supporters in our community.  I want to send a big shout out to Paul Lemley and his team at Deming Speedway for another successful fundraiser for Mount Baker Athletics and Academics!  They raised over $10,000! Madison Stump, teacher at Kendall, won the $500 classroom grant.

We appreciate our Mount Baker Athletic Booster volunteers and all of the Speedway volunteer cooks as well as the donors for the silent auction and the two days of raffle prizes!

If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, consider attending the Southfork Summerfest at Van Zandt this Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.  Go Baker!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
